Great Expectations

In today’s devotional in the Love Expressed series we examine the connection between your expectations and worship.

What are your expectations and what is the gap in your experience?  The questions that we have, the expectations and the gap between them and our experiences are an important matter for us in our development as a community of faith.
Sometimes there is a constant restlessness that stirs within our hearts an indescribable longing for "something".  This is where faith begins.  Faith allows us to see the miraculous.
Since everything is possible for God, you can experience miracles in your life when you invite God to intervene – even in situations that seem impossible. But too often, people neglect to ask God for miracles in their lives, and end up settling for far less than God’s best for them.
You can always approach God with confidence if you trust in His Son, Jesus Christ. So don’t hesitate to pray about anything, including miracles!
GOD provides answers to those who choose to seek, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find.” (Matthew 7:7)  It could be the reason your Red Sea has yet to be parted is because you have yet to take the first step by asking GOD for your miracle.

How Great Thou Art - A Come To Jesus Moment

You never know who God might send to touch your life.  I was reminded of this today by way of a chance encounter.

This morning I decided to take a walk to the Kroger store.  I’ve begun doing this as a goal because walking there and back is a three mile walk and walking has benefits that go beyond physical ones.  I use the time to clear my head.
This morning the problems with my sister Debbie were front and center on my mind.  I know that I told myself to give it to God and I’ve prayed on it but still I wondered if there was a way that I could redeem myself.  I mulled it over and prayed for my sister again and told God that I recognize that he was far better equipped at solving the situation than I was.
When I arrived at Kroger I checked out my usual haunts which are the clearance areas to see if there were any good deals.  I found a box of my favorite organic cereal marked down from $3.64 to 74¢.  I also picked up a Hershey bar and some chewing gum.
The store was pretty quiet and I got in line behind another woman who was buying a few things.  Out of habit I checked out what she bought.  I do that because I like to see if there were deals I missed out on getting.

The woman looked at me and I smiled at her.  I’ve been trying to make a concerted effort to smile more even when I feel troubled.  She smiled back and that probably would have been the last of it but suddenly she leaned in to me and said, “Let me get that for you.”

What?  She wanted to buy my groceries.  “No, I insisted you don’t have to.”

This time she said, “Please let me bless you with those things.”

Have you ever felt like the world has suddenly stopped and that you’re seeing only the things that are happening in the moment?  That’s how I felt.

I almost felt the words coming out of my mouth, “Thank you so much but what I really need is for someone to pray for me.”

She paid for her groceries and then bowed her head.  It took me a few moments to realize she was actually praying for me.

I felt some of the sadness I was under lift because I saw that God is always there for me and that he will give us a sign that he is working in your corner if you open your heart enough to see.

Under God Indivisible

Last night Darryl and I took his brother and his father to the Under God Indivisible Conference at the High Point Church in Arlington, Texas.  This event was billed as a day of renewed focus on Faith, Family, and Freedom in America.

The evening began with the Phillips, Craig and Dean Concert.  We were then treated to some dynamic speakers with a call for spiritual awakening.

Here are some of our favorite speakers of the evening.

Fr. Jonathan Morris is a Catholic priest of the Roman Rite in the Archdiocese of New York and a news contributor and analyst for the Fox News Channel. He currently serves as one of several parochial vicars at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York City.  Before joining the archdiocese, Fr. Morris served as vice rector at the Legionaries of Christ Seminary in Rome. He was a member of the Legion of Christ but rarely identified with them on camera.  He is the author of the book The Promise:  God’s Purpose and Plan for When Life Hurts. His newest book is God Wants You Happy: From Self-Help to God's Help.

Rev. Samuel Rodriguez who was so amazing that he got THREE standing ovations.  CNN named Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, “The leader of the Hispanic Evangelical movement”. The Wall St. Journal identified him as one of America’s 7 most influential Hispanic Leaders, and the only religious leader on the list. Meanwhile the San Francisco Chronicle described Samuel as one of the 6 Leaders of the New Evangelical Leadership. Charisma Magazine Identifies Rev. Samuel Rodriguez as America’s most influential spirit-filled Christian Leader in the political sphere.

Dr. Tony Evans is the Senior Pastor to the over 8,000 member Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas, which was founded in 1976 with 10 members meeting at his home. He is also founder and president of The Urban Alternative, a national organization that seeks to bring about spiritual renewal in urban America through the church.  Dr. Evans currently serves as chaplain for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and is also the longest serving NBA chaplain which he has done by serving the Dallas Mavericks for 32 years.

Ken Hutcherson is a former American football linebacker in the National Football League who is now the pastor of the Antioch Bible Church in Kirkland, Washington, where he has been since 1985. His nickname from his NFL days is "The Hutch".

The most quoted line of scripture last night was 2 Chrronicles 7:14: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will hear their land. (KJV)." If you believe the government is out of control, and it is, then step on is to turn to God.
